Dry Shampoo

The other day my assistant Kat asked me a question that many of my clients also wonder about. What do I think about dry shampoo? Most women are concerned for their hair looking gorgeous and luxurious everyday but what they don’t realize is that they are doing something everyday to cause damage to their amazing locks…washing it. Although we’ve all heard of dry shampoo by now, most aren’t aware of its benefits or if its something they should start using. The truth about washing your hair is that the more you wash it, the more oil your scalp produces to compensate for what is being stripped. However, I still get the popular question of how do I deal with my hair if I constantly workout and sweat profusely. The answer? Dry shampoo.

I know that this can be a very big transition so here’s how I recommend doing it. Start on a weekend and work your way into it gradually. If you washed your hair on a Friday, don’t wash your hair Saturday. Let your hair breath and leave it alone for one day. The more you get use to it, the more you can increase the days in between. When you are more comfortable with this concept, make it a habit to wash your hair only two or three times a week. Now for those who are beginners and on stage one of trying it out for the weekend, if you happen to have a routine of working out on Saturday and need to wash off, put a cap on when taking a shower and spray some dry shampoo on your roots after your workout. You can also put some dry shampoo in your hair before bed to soak up the oils as you sleep. But if you forget, don’t worry, you can add it first thing in the morning.

If you’ve never used dry shampoo, it’s so easy. Just spray it on your roots and let it sit. Now I will preface that it looks like white baby powder on your hair but don’t freak out. It’s supposed to be that way. Put on a good amount but don’t overdo it. You’ll love how much volume it gives you and will make your hair last days longer.

Using dry shampoo is really a game changer when it comes to taking care of your hair. I highly recommend using this, especially if your hair is extremely dry and damaged. It helps to add volume, soak up oil and eventually get your hair back to its healthy state because you aren’t drying it out by washing it daily. Now for the few that must absolutely wash their hair every single day, I advice to use Wen. You may be familiar with this product as it is infamous for appearing in late night infomercials but I am here to tell you that it actually works. I use it for my daughter and it helps cleanse her hair, detangles and removes grease. It’s a great alternative to regular shampoo as it won’t dry your hair out in the cleansing process.
