Everyone always asks me about what new, exciting facial treatments I love. Let me tell you about my latest obsession, a chemical peel. Yes, there is nothing new about a chemical peel. In fact, I’ve been getting light chemical peels done for years as an add-on to whatever else I have had done in my facial. This time, I decided to go for the big daddy himself, the real, deep chemical peel. I decided to do it because I wasn’t loving the texture of the skin on my face. I felt like I needed something deeper and so my esthetician recommended a chemical peel. She warned me that I wouldn’t want to be in public for several days as my skin would be coming off. I decided to go for it and schedule it for a long, lazy weekend where I didn’t have anything in the calendar. Since everyone has been asking me about it, here is my experience. First of all, lucky for me I had some foresight and decided to take some Motrin before going in for my treatment (you’ll find out why in a minute). My esthetician started putting something on my face and I thought I was being really brave as it stung a little bit. She laughed and told me she was only prepping the skin. Oh no, what was I in for I thought. To make a long (but very funny) story short, she applied 7 layers of a chemical solution to my face to cause 2nd degree burns to kill the top layer of skin. I won’t lie, this felt like someone lit my face on fire and watched it burn for 20 minutes while giving me the smallest handheld fan to ease the burning sensation. It hurt so bad all I could do was laugh and kick my legs. At the end of the treatment, my face was yellow and not at all attractive to look at. I was a little panicked because that night my husband was hosting his annual client appreciation party and I needed to be there. Oh, did I mention that I didn’t tell my husband I was doing this procedure? After several hours, the yellow wore off and I was able to put a little makeup on. No one even noticed I had done anything to my face. After a couple of days my skin started peeling a lot or as I like to say, my face was falling off. After about 4 days of peeling, my new, gorgeous, fresh skin was revealed. I loved it. My skin looked so incredible that I didn’t wear foundation for weeks afterwards and had an amazing glow. Everywhere I went, people commented on how great I looked and wondered what I had done. I do think the results were amazing and worth it all and I highly recommend this treatment!
