Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning

Would you put a razor blade to your face in the name of beauty?

I WOULD AND DID!

Let me tell you about my favorite facial treatment I get done, dermaplaning. It is a safe and in my opinion life changing. Essentially it is a simple procedure that estheticians use to remove hair and dead skin cells from your face. I have been getting this for years and I love it! If you are wondering why, it’s because it’s one of the best and easiest ways to renew collagen in your face and get that glow we all are looking for.

In the beginning I started getting this done when I had an event and wanted my skin to look fresh and glow and now, I try to get it done once a month. Here’s why, as we age, the skin on our face begins to dull and we grow those fine little peach fuzz hairs that are unsightly. So, every month or 6 weeks, I make a visit for my skin to look fresh and glow again.

How it works

If you’ve never done this before, don’t worry, it doesn’t hurt at all. Contrary to what you (and I) might think, this exfoliating procedure feels like light scratches on your face. So if you are curious to know further, here is a few things to know before you jump in. When you start your appointment, you can expect your medical esthetician to take a small razor to your face and exfoliate your skin through light feather-like strokes. By doing this painless procedure, the vellum hair that accumulates oil and dirt along with all the top dead layer of skin on your face is removed. As a result, it allows collagen to build and renew your skin. This then gives you dewier skin and enables faster cell turnover. Not only that, but it also helps create smoother texture on your skin. Another great benefit of undergoing dermaplaning is that once that top layer of skin is gone, your skin is able to soak up your skincare products a lot more. Those anti-aging creams and other serums work 10 times better as they are able to penetrate your face deeper and not have those hairs or dead cells blocking their way. It’s another great beauty secret you can add to your monthly visit with your dermatologist.

Despite dermaplaning’s arsenal of great benefits, I still get the famous question of whether or not your hair grows back darker and thicker. As women, we love to feel smooth. So I know a few skeptics who retract from this beauty opportunity because they are scared their hair is going to come back coarser and will look very unpleasant. I’m here to tell you NO it doesn’t grow back darker or thicker and that assumption is an old wives tale. It grows back the same and overtime a little less.

Dermaplaning is something I definitely recommend trying. Give it a try. You might love it and may end up going several times a year. I hope this helped shed some light to the famous exfoliating procedure for you. Let me know what your thoughts are.
