Dry Brushing

Dry brushing has been done for thousands of years since the Ayurvedic times, but lately it’s been gaining popularity. I too am loving it and here’s why. After coming back from our beach vacation a few weeks ago, I started peeling on my shoulders and my skin looked really dry. I decided to pull out my dry brush and get to work on making my skin glow again. My routine is that I dry brush right before I take a shower in the morning to slough off all of the dry/dead skin and then apply coconut oil (see my blog on the benefits of coconut oil). Within days of starting this routine I noticed a big difference in the quality of my skin. It stays super soft and silky.  Since then, I’ve been so impressed that I’ve researched it a little more and am amazed at all of the benefits it truly has.

It’s very important to use the right kind of brush for the best results.  Make sure you choose one with natural bristles.  Here is the one that I’m loving.

Every morning before you take a shower, dry brush. Start at your feet and brush in upward motions toward your heart.

Makes skin softer.

Helps to tone skin.

Helps the body detox the lymphatic system which helps your immune system and aids in digestion.

It exfoliates the skin naturally by loosening dry and dead skin.

Increase in your circulation and energy flow.

Helps reduce the appearance of cellulite. Cellulite is toxic materials trapped in your body’s fat creating the appearance of lumps.  Dry brushing can break down the toxins from within and help your body eliminate them.

Unclogs pores and gives a healthy glow.

Recommended to do anywhere from 3 times a week to twice a day. I do it every morning.

Clean your dry brush at least each week.

Never brush open wounds or inflamed areas.

I always rub coconut oil on my skin afterward to nourish my skin and give it a healthy glow.
