This is probably the question I get the most this time of year. How do I wear my knee-high boots? Here are my thoughts and rules, if you will, to navigate the situation.
When do I wear my knee-high boots?
In the fall and winter, anytime you wear a skirt or dress knee-high boots will look great. I love the look of knee-high boots with a short dress or skirt. I recommend that you expose a little bit of your leg if possible. For instance, if you are wearing a midi skirt that goes past the boot, sometimes it will look frumpy and not stylish. Use your judgement when you look in the mirror. One exception is if you are attending a more formal event, skip the boots and wear some pumps.
Tights or no tights?
When it’s warm outside, I forgo the tights for bare legs. Although when it’s cold, I wear thick black tights to keep my legs warm.
Are textured or patterns okay?
It depends on what you are wearing. Make sure that the texture or pattern complements your dress or skirt rather than compete with it. Stay with the same color tones or general vibe of the outfit.
Do I need a built in shaper or control top?
This depends on the fabric of the dress and personal preference. For me, if I’m wearing a fabric that isn’t forgiving like a jersey knit, I will always take a little help in smoothing me out. However, if I’m wearing a dress that is forgiving I won’t worry about it. Overall, if I’m wearing hose or tights I figure that I might as well have a shaper in it so that I look a little better.
Here are some of my favorite knee-high boots and tights.
