While managing stress is a year-round challenge, the holiday season always seems to amplify the feeling. Just like most people, I have to manage everyday business and life, prepare for family and friend gatherings, plan travel, and for the past three years – be the best mom I can be to my amazing daughter, Stella! Phew, December is crazy! And crazy-busy can lead to stress. Anyone who knows me, knows that having several irons in the fire is business as usual. While you may see Keri Blair the Personal Stylist on the outside, it is important to know that there is a lot that goes on behind the scenes to help move my days along smoothly. Sure, a wrench can be thrown into the plan, but with proper stress-management I can be on to the next thing in no time.
So what are my tricks to keeping it all together this time of year? First off, as I mentioned earlier, I believe stress can be a year-round issue so I don’t wait until the last minute to address it. I suggest implementing these tips today and sticking with them no matter the season.
Give every morning a fighting chance with a good night’s rest. Studies have shown that you really need between 7-9 hours of rest each evening. Make sure to evaluate if you are getting restful sleep too. I can’t live without my Tempur-Pedic mattress. It helps me sleep 8 or 9 hours a night.

Another thing that is important for me MEDITATION! I know, I know… it may sound woo-woo to you, but when I take the time to be still, I feel at peace in no time. Whether you like the guidance of an app, like Andy Puddicombe’s Headspace, or you like to bond with Oprah and Deepak Chopra, taking a few minutes of quiet each day will pay off in no time.

One of my go-to products for stress relief are Bach Flower Rescue Remedy Pastilles. These homeopathic, dissolvable drops calm the nervous system while battling negative emotions. You’ve heard of, “Take a chill pill,” well here’s your all-natural option! Great for those in your life that may have travel anxiety as well. You can order online, or pick-up at the health food store near you.

Another tactic I employ to send stress out the door is to break a sweat. Specifically, I love to take a run on a nice day or hit the pilates studio. Just like a good night’s rest, working out is proven to help relieve stress and make you feel great about yourself.
When things are a mess, so am I. My stress level goes through the roof when things are untidy and unorganized. It is imperative for me to keep a clean and organized environment wherever I am, from my house to my car, and The Studio too. I’ve found that I can manage clutter (and stress) by implementing the use of proper storage bins and being a purger. I’ve been known to get rid of things even if they could be useful later.

At the end of most days, it is inevitable that stress has caught-up with me. On those nights, there is nothing better than a lovely glass of wine. So kick your feet up and enjoy!

While I wish it were easier to manage stress, I hope that these tips will help keep you calm and sane this holiday season. Don’t forget that these suggestions aren’t just for December, but that they can make a difference for you all year long.
