When you think Kentucky Derby, you may think about a horse race dubbed “The Fastest Two Minutes in Sports.” Or you may wonder what to wear to a Derby party. Think outrageous hats, colorful spring dresses and gorgeous colorful heels. The Kentucky Derby is held the first Saturday in May and is an exciting time filled with memorable fashion moments, moscow mules and a test of luck that originated from Louisville, Kentucky on May 17, 1875. Since its inception, a few states have began hosting parties to honor the event and join in on all of the fun associated with the Kentucky Derby. Not that long ago, Denver joined the ranks in hosting its very own Derby Party that grew to be known as the second largest Derby Party in the United States. This year, the Denver Derby Party will be celebrating its 15th Anniversary Event and 100% of its ticket sales and proceeds will go to funding the Sean ‘Ranch’ Lough Memorial Scholarship. So not only is it a time to get social, but a time to be charitable as well. If you are interested in finding out more information about the event or purchasing tickets, visit their website www.denverderby.com.
Now aside from the actual horse race, the second most prominent aspect of the Derby is its fashion moments. When you attend a Derby Party, like the Denver Derby Party this May 7th, you will notice a specific dress code for women: spring dresses and outlandish hats. For those who have never attended or need a refresher on what to wear to a Derby Party, here are a few tips on what to put on for the event. These types of dresses are synonymous with the Derby. Get one in a vibrant solid color or one with a floral print and pair it with a floppy or a Sinamay hat and you’re all set.
